An online fundraising campaign for murdered North Vancouver hockey player Matthew Hutchinson has topped $26,000 in less than a day.
Police say 24-year-old Hutchinson and 21-year-old Kelsey Annese were killed in their sleep in what is being called a murder-suicide by New York state police.
Hutchinson had been attending SUNY Geneseo in Upstate New York, and the fundraiser launched by his sister Katelynn Hutchinson aims to cover the costs of travel and bringing him home.
A passing away abroad for a family can be costly and weighs on them heavily. I want my brother to have a beautiful memory and a celebration of life and for my parents to be able to travel to Geneseo College in New York State without fear of debt…. My parents are too modest to ask for help so I am. Even a dollar even a cent. Anything could help bring him home to us.
Hutchinson had originally asked for just $3,000 – which was quickly surpassed by donors.
SUNY Geneseo says a remembrance ceremony for the murdered students will be held tomorrow evening.
In the mean time, tributes continue to pour in for the popular hockey player and volunteer firefighter.
