Popular car sharing service Car2Go has hit a suburban snag.
As of next month, it’s nixing service in Richmond and the western-most portion of North Vancouver.
The changes go into effect on February 1st, and mean users won’t be able to drop off vehicles in Richmond, or in the western-most part of North Vancouver.
In an email to Car2Go members, the company says the service has been incredibly popular in much of the city of Vancouver with vehicles in “constant circulation”, but in Richmond, some vehicles have sat idle for 13 hours in a day.
“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue car2go service in Richmond as of Monday, February 1. Additionally, we will be reducing the North Vancouver portion of the Home Area by a half square-kilometer, discontinuing service in the far West portion of the North Vancouver Home Area. This change will allow us to concentrate the vehicles within the Vancouver Home Area for a more robust car2go network, allowing members to find a vehicle more easily when they need to get from Point A to Point B.”
Car2Go was expanded to Richmond in December of 2014.
