Liberal MP Seamus O’Regan for St. John’s South-Mount Pearl in Newfoundland and Labrador says he’s ready to be a “clear and effective voice in Parliament for the people who sent me there.”
This, after 40 days in a rehabilitation centre to deal with his growing dependency on alcohol.
“Over the last year or two, alcohol was becoming a part of my daily life. I regularly had several drinks at the end of most days. Sometimes more than several drinks.”
O’Regan says with the help of friends and family, he made the decision to acknowledge he had a problem, and that he needed help.
“The people of St John’s South-Mount Pearl have given me their trust. That vote of trust was my wake-up call.”
O’Regan entered rehab on the last day Parliament sat in December. He says he completed his duties and flew to a treatment centre in Toronto, where he remained until a few days ago.
