“Immigration should be something the Provinces have much more control over.”
The Premier wants the Trudeau Government to work with the province to remove barriers in bringing in highly skilled foreign labour.
Christy Clark would like to see some equity, noting Quebec gets to run its own immigration system unlike other provinces.
However, Clark also noted red tape aside, Metro Vancouver has another big hurdle for workers foreign and otherwise: affordability.
“It is a problem, and it’s a problem for any economy that’s really succeeding. You see the same problem in Austin, you see the same problem in San Francisco, it’s the downside of growth and jobs…and the growing economy.”
Clark says B.C. workers should be first in line for any job, but in some cases, there is a lack of highly skilled workers.
