The City of Vancouver might soon see a “Dal Richards Street” in the future.
Councillor Melissa De Genova says she’s hoping city staff will be able to identify an area that would best suit a street honouring the late King of Swing.
“I’ve also put forward a number of other options and I’m hoping that our civic asset naming committee will along with his family explore, and staff will come back to us with appropriate options.”
De Genova says the idea would be to locate the street in an entertainment oriented outdoor space.
The proposal is being submitted at Tuesday’s council meeting, and has no fixed timeline.
While Richards was beloved by Vancouverites, De Genova has a personal connection.
“I was not only a fan of Dal Richards, he was a close family friend, he performed at my wedding! I have very special memories of Dal as a person, and also as a musician.”
Richards passed away at the age of 97 on New Year’s Eve.
