Smithers remains on high alert due to high water levels on the Bulkley River due to ice jams.
Ice has been accumulating for the past few weeks, threatening to flood the area.
Bill Miller from the Bulkley-Nechako Regional District says temperatures are helping ease the problem.
“The ice jam is still there of course but there’s some open leads developing so it’s drained the water down.”
He says there’ve been no evacuations so far but residents should remain alert.
“We’re asking people who are not residents to stay away from the area and not to recreate close to the river. The ice jam is still there so there’s still the danger that it could develop and back up again.”
Miller says they are not certain when the alert will be over.
