The Independent Investigations Office has been called in and a man is in critical condition after a lunch hour police-involved shooting near the Walmart on Queensborough Landing in New West.
A witness tells CKNW there were at least two suspects.
She says one man was tasered before reaching for a gun but managed to escape towards the river.
That’s when she heard popping sounds before he was apprehended.
“It was gunfire, you are kind of in shock, you are hear something, there was enough, there was more than one. Put it that way.”
Police say they were responding to a call of a man causing a disturbance near the 800 block of Boyd Street at around noon.
The IIO says it was notified at 12:12 p.m. and investigators have been deployed to the scene.
Spokesperson Marten Youssef says investigators will be conducting standard tasks including obtaining physical evidence from the scene; interviewing any civilian witnesses and designating and interviewing officers.
Any potential witnesses are asked to call the IIO Info line at 1-855-446-8477.

That man was originally Tasered, he then got up and pulled out what she described as a "big gun" -- that's when he took off as police chased— Jeremy Lye (@JJLye980) January 15, 2016
