We’re only 10 days into January, but 2016 is already shaping up to be another busy year for North Shore Rescue.
Team leader Mike Danks says crews have been activated and are on their way to rescue an injured man.
“We’ve got a 22-year-old male that’s fractured his ankle. He’s very close to the summit of first bump on on Mount Seymour.”
Danks says the injured man is with seven friends, and will have to be stretchered out. Mount Seymour ski patrol is assisting.
Another record year?
The rescue comes just a day after crews were up on Cypress rescuing a group of hikers that got stranded in the dark after hiking up to watch the sunset.
Danks says since the new year, volunteers have already been called nearly half a dozen times.
“I think this is our fourth call or our fifth call.”
Last year was the busiest ever for the volunteer-run rescue team, with 138 calls.
That prompted a call earlier this year to recruit new members.
