Vancouver will say goodbye to a musical legend this afternoon, as a public memorial service for Dal Richards will be held downtown.
The doors to the Christ Church Cathedral at Burrard and Georgia will open at 1:15pm and the celebration of life for the big band leader will get underway at 2pm.
Richards died on New Year’s Eve, twelve minutes to the stroke of midnight and a few days shy of his 98th birthday.
He performed 79 consecutive New Year’s Eve concerts, falling just one show short of 80.
The Cathedral venue is fitting, as it’s across the street from Hotel Vancouver, where Dal performed house gigs from the 1940’s to the 1960’s.
