More than 50 faculty members at UBC have apologized for not doing better in responding to reports of sexual assault.
The professors and instructors have signed an open letter, saying they promise to take a more active role in the future.
UBC fell into turmoil this year over allegations that officials took too long to deal with a PhD student accused of several sexual assaults.
He was finally expelled a year and a half after the accusations first surfaced.
Along with saying UBC policies and procedures have caused additional harm to students and alumni who have reported sexual abuse, the group is pledging to take an active role in making things better.s.
An independent report into the matter is due next month.
