The BC SPCA is recommending animal cruelty charges against the well-known “Reptile Guy” as new shocking details come to light in police search warrants.
According to the warrant, the SPCA found overcrowding, a number of snakes with fungal infections, issues with living conditions, and even emaciated and dead reptiles.
The warrants were obtained by animal activist David Isbister .
“They took six dead animals out. There was a mountain-horned lizard that was found between 24 and 48 hours deceased with its eyes having been eaten out by crickets.”
Isbister says he put the search warrants online to raise awareness.
“I want to try and help shed light on this. He says a steadfast reserve of supporters that go to bat for him. I just felt like constantly campaigning them for money with these allegations going on behind the scenes was disingenuous.”
Mike Hopcraft who runs the Mission-based Reptile Guy Rescue and Education Centre has denied any wrongdoing.
He claims he takes good care of his reptiles.
The centre is popular for kids birthday parties.
