He’s calling Vancouver’s first large-scale New Year’s Eve event in years a huge success.
Charles Gauthier with the New Year’s Eve Celebration Society says organizers couldn’t be more pleased with the turnout.
“We had upwards of 80,000 people at the event on New Year’s Eve, which is just astounding and gratifying for us on the society who have been working on this for literally more than a year. And so Vancouverites, and people that were visiting from abroad embraced the event, and came out in huge numbers.”
Gauthier says the night had a mostly fun-filled family atmosphere.
“Police reported — you know, not sure the number — but there were some pour-outs, but you know what, that’s sort of par for the course on any nighttime event. We had a lot of messaging, related to public alcohol consumption wasn’t going to be permitted.”
He says the next step is to sit down and put together plans for the next fete, once the group has had a chance to recuperate.
This photo of @nyevancouver captures perfectly what @iamkenjchan and I worked hard for 3 years to bring back to the City of #Vancouver. We couldn't have done it alone. Many thanks to the board, sponsors, the #Vancitybuzz family and friends who all had a huge part in making this happen. Photo by @jennchanphotography #nyevan
