The Australian man who died in a snowmobile incident on New Year’s Day in Whistler has been identified as Paul Leechburch-Auwers.
The 65-year-old died in hospital after his snowmobile went along a concrete barrier, over an embankment, and then struck a tree.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve Leclair say he was found in cardiac arrest.
“We don’t know if this was a heart attack that caused him to go off the trail, or if he accidentally went off the trail and suffered cardiac arrest due to injuries suffered in the event.”
Leechburch-Auwers had been on a guided tour. A female passenger was injured.
