Vancouver has lost a musical legend.
Dal Richards has passed away at the age of 97.
The man who was dubbed Canada’s King of Swing died on New Year’s Eve.
Last night marked the first time in 79 years that the big band leader was unable to perform in a New Year’s Eve gig.

Someone who knew him was CKNW’s Joy Metcalfe, who says Richards’ legacy casts a long shadow over Vancouver’s big band scene .
“He’s someone to follow, his name will live for a very, very long time.”
His remarkable career spanned over eight decades.
We are sad to hear of the passing of @Dalrichards. His big band sounds entertained guests at the The Fair at the PNE for 75 years.
