The BC Liberal party has confirmed that Ryan Plecas, the son of Abbotsford South MLA Darryl Plecas, has died.
It comes after Abbotsford Police were called to a “non-suspicious death, involving a male in his 20’s” yesterday, but declined to identify the body.
Liberal Caucus Communications Director Ben James says it is Plecas’ son, and that the family is asking for privacy as they grieve the death of their child.
Thinking about you and your family @darrylplecas. So sorry for your loss.

Plecas had been facing charges of dangerous driving for an alleged incident in Abbotsford in December of last year.
Earlier this summer, a special prosecutor was appointed to review the case.
It was the second case involving Plecas and a special prosecutor.
One was appointed in 2013 to review a case after an alleged home invasion in which three people were accused of breaking into Plecas’ home and robbing him at gunpoint.
Darryl Plecas was the parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Justice at the time, and the move was made to avoid any perceived influence on the case.
