Two boaters are back on shore after spending more than 10 hours stranded on a sandbar in the Pitt River.
Port Coquitlam Fire Chief Nick Delmonico says firefighters were called to the dyke just off Dominion Street Wednesday morning.
“I guess PoCo works crews discovered them when they were doing work down on the dyke and they were trying to get their attention. When we got there, I guess they were waiting maybe for the tide or something to change so they could get their boat off. They’d been there for quite a while.”
He adds their radio wasn’t working and they didn’t have a cell phone. No word on what the two were doing out on the river at two in the morning.
They had minor hypothermia, but were otherwise okay.
