Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is the winner of the 2015 Miss Universe pageant.
But for a moment, it looked like rival Miss Colombia had won the glizty showdown.
The mixup happened at the show’s high intensity climax, with host Steve Harvey dramatically declaring Colombian Adriana Gutierrez the winner.
She tearfully accepted, was draped with the “Miss Universe” sash, was crowned, and waving happily to the assembled crowd before the mistake was caught.
Harvey then returned awkwardly to explain.
“I have to apologize. The first runner up is Colombia. Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines.”
The pronouncement drew gasps from the crowd as a stunned Wurtzbach made her way to the front of the stage to be crowned instead.
Harvey told the crowd he had misread the winner card.
“Listen folks, let me just take control of this. This is exactly what’s on the card. I will take responsibility for this, it was my mistake. Still a great night, please don’t hold it against the ladies.”
The gaffe caps a troubled run for the pageant.
The event, which was co-owned by Presidential contender Donald Trump and NBC was thrust into the spotlight this summer, following Trump’s comments calling Mexicans criminals and rapists.
That prompted Spanish-language network Univision to pull out of the pageant, and shortly after, NBC announced it was ending it’s relationship with Trump.
Following a legal battle, the business magnate bought the network out. He sold the event shortly afterward to global sports, media and fashion conglomerate IMG inc.
