A two-alarm fire in downtown Vancouver this afternoon has displaced several people.
Vancouver Police Constable Brian Montague confirmed the blaze happened at The Regal, located at 144 West Hastings near Cambie Street.
Captain Jonathan Gormick with Vancouver Fire says the exact location of the blaze prompted the two-alarm designation.
“That fire was discovered on the eighth floor, so because the nature of it being a high building, it was a second alarm right away. Crews made entry and have knocked down the fire, they’re just conducting overhaul and a secondary search of the building.”
Vancouver Fire Battalion Chief Ken Abel says people living on the top floor won’t be able to return home any time soon.
“People on the top floor will be out for some time and we’re just determining the extent of the damage on the lower floors.”
Montague adds he’s not aware of any injuries, and that the VPD will assist where needed unless the fire is deemed suspicious.
