Victoria Police Chief Frank Elsner is stepping aside, as several investigations into his conduct get underway.
Elsner informed the Victoria Police Board that he’ll step aside, until several investigations are finished.
They include ones led by retired provincial Chief Judge Carol Baird Ellan, retired Supreme Court Justice Ian Pitfield, and the RCMP.
Elsner admitted sending inappropriate messages on Twitter to the wife of one of his officers, and has apologized.
But a notice for investigation from police complaint commissioner Stan Lowe alleges Elsner misled an investigator, and contacted witnesses during the Victoria Police’s internal investigation.
Elsner will continue to receive a paycheck.
Deputy Chief Del Manak takes over his duties in the meantime.
