Conservative MP and former Surrey mayor Dianne Watts says she is not happy with the latest news about a toll for the new Massey Tunnel replacement.
Speaking on CKNW’s Simi Sara show, Watts says tolling the current approach is not working.
“You’ve got the Golden Ears, you’ve got the Port Mann, the Pattullo’s going to be tolled, the Massey Tunnel is now going to be tolled, and it’s just absolutely punitive. And there has to be a change, and a fundamental change in the tolling policy and the road pricing policy.”
Watts says she’d rather see fair regionwide pricing, not tolling that puts pressure on just one part of the region.
The province has announced a $3.5-billion plan to replace the tunnel with a bridge, with construction set to begin in 2017.
