1. Best Book(s) of the Year for me:The Last Hundred Years Trilogy by Jane Smiley
These books are great for anyone who loves historical fiction and a compelling read. They follow the saga of a farm family and their changes through the 20th century and into the 21st. And if you read them, let me know what you think of the ending of the third one.
2. Looking forward to Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Thirty two and a half years after my parents picked me up from school and took me to see the afternoon show of Return of the Jedi at the Vogue Theatre (yes, it still showed movies back then), I am awaiting the continuing story of my favourite Star Wars characters. But I’m also a little apprehensive. Are these things better left to your imagination instead of a sequel thirty years later?
3. Waiting for Christmas and giving back
This is a wonderful time of year if you are surrounded by loved ones, family and friends. But many are not. One of the most rewarding things I do with my kids is Adopt-a-Family, and then shop for them at Christmas. We do it together and it is more fun than buying gifts for each other and helps us all remember what the season is actually about.
