Are American’s looking north and wondering if it could become a gateway to a security threat to their country?
That’s what David Tabachnik has suggested in his recent column in the Globe and Mail. Tabachnik is a a professor of political science at Nipissing University.
He says that some American Conservatives look around the world and says it’s all dangerous, Canada included.
“That can be argued as part of a Conservative trend that, as this war on terrorism has turned over and over and over, people have become more hunkered down, heading for their bunkers.”
Tabachnik says that now there’s a very good chance that Donald Trump could win the Republican nomination. Trump has made headlines recently with his anti-Muslim sentiment and stance on illegal immigration.
“And then he’s just one vote away from the White House, so I do think it’s possible. And we have to take the man seriously now, and we can just say it’ll never happen. It could very well happen.”
Tabachnik points out that after 9-11 we did see the border being closed down, new agreements were made about how people and goods traveled across the border, and new rules requiring people have passports to cross the border. And that could happen again.
