Welcome to the Things That Don’t Matter file, a new Drex Live editorial segment where we take a look at something that’s getting a lot of attention… but in the end really doesn’t matter.
This week: Donald Trump. More specifically, an E-petition to keep him out of Canada.
It’s sponsored by Burnaby South MP Kennedy Stewart, and says because Trump’s views are so repugnant we should block him at the border.
Here’s the problem. What Trump is saying is his opinion, nothing more. He’s entitled to it, even though even though you and I probably disagree with him. He’s not inciting hatred, he’s just being ignorant.
Now, Kennedy Stewart says Trump’s comments are more than an opinion. He’s wrong, they are exactly an opinion. It’s how you percieve the opinion. You don’t like the opinion? I don’t like the opinion. That’s probably the one thing Stewart and I see eye to eye on.
But you can’t just say it’s more than an opinion. No, that’s exactly what it is.
Stewart is putting an awful lot of energy into keeping Trump out of Canada – something fairly ironic, considering Trump is trying to keep people out of the U.S.
But why? He isn’t involved in Canadian politics, why are we putting so much onus on blocking someone from entering our country? Donald Trump has nothing to do with Canadian politics, and he likely never will. Sorry Kennedy, you’re wasting your damned time.
And it’s not your job.
Kennedy you are the MP for Burnaby South. When you file E-petitions they should be for your constituents and the problems they are having. Transportation is probably one of them Kennedy, so stop wasting your time and your parliamentary whatever the hell you are doing on E-petitions that don’t matter.
Most of what comes out of Trump’s mouth is garbage, and most of us smart adults will figure out that what he says is garbage, we can figure out our own opinions. We don’t need you as a politician telling us what we should think.
