A new Vancity survey on holiday shopping reminds shoppers to reign in their extravagant purchases.
While Vancouverites are planning to spend an average of $800 on gifts this year, the survey found 41% of people said they overspent on gifts last year.
Vancity Senior Vice-President Linda Morris has these tips to avoid holiday regrets.
“Really look at what you spent last year, think about who you’re buying gifts for, and be a bit more creative to try to keep your dollars down”
The survey found only 10% of respondents said they spent too little.
Meanwhile, the survey also found most people don’t necessarily want the fancy gift from the mall.
“Many more would actually prefer to receive a different kind of gift from their friends and family, that is an experience, a handmade gift, a homemade gift, or even a gift care. It’s interesting the time that we spend out shopping, maybe they’d like something different”
The survey found only 31% of respondents wanted to receive a purchased gift.
