Good news for skiers and snowboarders as the B.C. storm is expected to cover the North Shore mountains in over 50 cm of snow.
But for those heading to the interior, beware of avalanches.
Grant Helgeson of Avalanche Canada says the new snow has made the area below treeline – around 1400-1800 meters – unsafe.
“Below treeline is a place where we usually feel safe, either skiing or sledding through cut-blocks. But these are some of the most volatile places at the moment.”
The area covered by the warning is everything north of Nelson and Kootenay pass, all the way out to Valemont, and east to Golden and west to around Williams Lake.
