A New Westminster woman is rallying behind a young Syrian refugee in the hopes of bringing his family to Canada.
Deana Brynildsen has launched a crowd funding campaign in an effort to privately sponsor Mohammad Alsaleh’s family.
“I don’t have the resources and I don’t know five people who could each come up with six thousand dollars so I thought if we do a GoFundMe page then we can raise the money first.”
Alsaleh says he is going to school and volunteering with Syrian organizations after escaping a life of hardship.
“I experienced a very bad experience and I was imprisoned, tortured, and nearly killed.”
He says his mother, two sisters and one brother have fled to Turkey.
He hopes to bring them to Canada within two years.
