You’ve heard about insane housing prices in Vancouver. But how about $4.5 million for ONE square foot?
That’s a real listing. For a real house. Though, it’s made of ginger bread.
Ari Ron is the man who posted the pricey pad, and says he did it as a joke.
“I said well, you know – this is Vancouver. You don’t even need a real estate agent. Just put a sign on your front lawn. So just for fun I put it on craigslist – Gingerbread for sale, by owner. 4.5 million, developers’ dream ect, ect – everything they list in these postings.”
The reaction? An instant viral hit. Ron says he got plenty of gag offers, including $2 million in phony Canadian Tire money, and has been interviewed by media as far away as Asia.
“People are starting to blame people and come up with different scenarios. But this one here, it’s just a gingerbread home. It really hit a positive nerve with a lot of people. And it’s put a smile on people’s face – especially this time of year, the holiday season.”
Ron says with the holidays here, he tried to leverage the idea into a fundraiser, selling the home on a GoFundMe page to support BC Children’s Hospital.
But he says that plan ran into a snag today when the service decided he was running a raffle and suspended his account.
He says he’s reached out to them to try and sort it out – but if that doesn’t work he says he hopes people will be inspired to donate directly this season.
