Friends and family of a North Shore Rescue volunteer have already surpassed their goal of raising money to help him.
Jay Piggot has been fighting cancer, so a fellow volunteer set up an online fundraiser to help his young family with medical bills and lost wages.
After just three days, the campaign has raised more than $70,000.
That fellow volunteer, Curtis Jones, says he is taken aback.
“He has a financial arsenal at his back. Every time I give him an update, I see tears in his eyes.”
Jones says he is thrilled to see the community come together.
“We really need him to pull through this. He’s absolutely pivotal to the rescue team. He’s an amazing friend and he’s a dedicated father and husband.”
