The annual Santa Claus Parade kicked off from Downtown Vancouver, with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank receiving donations for their neediest Vancouverites.
Ariela Friedman of the Food Bank says the face of the everyday user is changing.
“I’ve seen students, lot of people of who are working – struggling to make ends meet. It’s so expensive. The biggest majority of our users right now are families with children and senior citizens.”
“We get 65-75% of the food and the money comes in at this time of the year and helps sustain us throughout the year.”
Aart Schuurman-Hess is the CEO of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
“Come out, have fun, enjoy but also be aware that hunger is around 365 days a year.”
The food bank receives 65-70% of their yearly donations during the month of December.
