The appointment of a former Conservative cabinet minister as chancellor of the University of Northern BC has prompted a heated debate on campus, and across the country, but students aren’t rushing to judgment.
“Ask for calm, at least urge calm and respect among the university.”
While the school’s faculty association stands behind a petition calling on the university to reverse its appointment of James Moore as the next ceremonial head, student union president Duncan Malkinson says everyone needs to calm down.
He hints there may be another agenda at play.
“I think there is possibly, I hypothesize this has a little bit to do with the ongoing negotiations between faculty and administration, the labour negotiations going on at the university right now.”
Malkinson says Moore has been invited to speak to students before the undergrad society takes any official position.
