The SPCA could be recommending charges of animal cruelty against “The Reptile Guy.”
Spokesperson Marcie Moriarty alleges Mike Hopcraft, owner of The Reptile Guy’s Rescue and Education Centre in Mission, isn’t properly taking care of his reptiles.
“Including dehydration, lack of water, lack of adequate and appropriate food, some of them with inadequate space, some of them with insufficient lighting or accommodation, and of course in reptiles that could be quite essential.”
The SPCA seized 46 rats, as well as bearded dragons, geckos and other reptile species.
Even though it’s the fourth search warrant that has been executed on his rescue centre, Hopcraft insists the reptiles are well cared for.
“We’ve got a staff in there that goes through every day and does the food, the water, everything.”
The SPCA alleges the animals had a lack of water, lack of adequate and appropriate food and insufficient lighting.
