As world leaders push for a price on carbon, a professor at SFU’s School of Resource and Environmental Management says industry has been supporting this for a long time.
Doctor Mark Jaccard has been a professor since 1986, and has worked on the effectiveness of sustainable energy and climate policies.
He says policies being discussed in Paris mirror what industry has been calling for.
“There have been corporations who have called for action policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for the twenty-five years that I’ve been working in this field, including oil companies in the fossil fuel sector, and I would call these ‘enlightened corporations.'”
Professor Jaccard says industry wants leadership to price or regulate carbon to create a level playing field and spur innovation.
