Tate, a 5 year old kindergarterner in Victoria, has decided to spend his hard earning savings on giving some Christmas cheer to those less fortunate.
His father, Neil Parker, says Tate is just trying to do what he can.
“As a family we go for a walk in Beacon Hill Park, and we notice tents or people just sleeping outside with no tents”
After growing curious about the people he saw sleeping in the park on walks with his family, Tate decided to use his piggy bank savings – $51 – to collect some sleeping bags.
“We just started talking about it and he had an idea to get them a warm sleeping bag because Christmas is coming and Tate says that they’re not going to get a visit from Santa. They don’t have a home.”
“You know we’re not trying to solve homelessnes. It’s a concern, it’s kids showing empathy and it’s cold here in Victoria right now!”
He decided to give a dollar for each sleeping bag he got.
The family put an ad in Used Victoria and have already received 20 sleeping bags.
“We’re going to be down there on Christmas Eve, and hopefully it’ll keep them a little warmer for one night at least.”
