While many fundraisers have focused on getting the bare essentials for incoming Syrian refugees, one group is fundraising to provide comfort for the youngest arrivals.
“This campaign is trying to raise funds so that we would be able to provide a soft toy to the Syrian refugee children when they arrive in the upcoming months.”
“Some of them could be very traumatized, and could have lost their family, their loved ones, their parents, etc. This little toy will offer them comfort and offer our Canadian ways of welcoming these refugee children.”
Queenie Chu is the executive director of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. – a non-profit charity helping new Canadians.
“We are asking for money for donations, our target is asking for $15,000.”
UNICEF estimates that up to 7.5 million children have been affected by the Syrian civil war since 2011, and children make up half of the nearly 4 million refugees worldwide.
