Giving hand knitted toques to refugees.
That’s the idea Quebec Native Danielle Letourneau had last week, when she challenged her Facebook friends to knit as many toques as possible, in time to give them to the thousands of refugees who will soon be arriving in Canada.
“So I thought that the best way to say welcome was to make something. Not just to say it or to sign a petition or something, but to address what we are doing directly to the people who are coming.”
Since then, the idea has exploded.
Letourneau says there are now 50 drop boxes across the country where people can donate their hand made toques.
Anyone who is interested in the program can check out “25-thousand” toques on Facebook.
