For the first time in almost 2 decades, a football team from British Columbia will play for the Vanier Cup.
It’s Canada’s university national football championship and UBC will be in the final for the first time since 1997.
Nick Termansen, a corner back for UBC, says even they’re surprised they made it this far.
“Quite shocking to even ourselves amongst the team. All the work that we’ve put in and now that we’re here, there’s no bigger goal than winning the cup.”
The fourth year kinesiology student says as their run has gone one, the support has come pouring in.
“We’re definitely getting a lot of support from back home. And the alumni have been reaching out to us. They’re almost as excited as we are to be in the position we are in now. So it’s just great to know we have that support back home.”
Termansen says he’s hoping to either make to the CFL, or work in sport in one capacity or another.
UBC had a turnaround season this year finishing at six and two, after a two and six record in 20.
