Syrian Canadians are anticipating the arrival of their countrymen in Canada as early as December 1st as the Canadian government releases its plan to bring in refugees from the wartorn country.
Rahim Othman with the organization says despite the government reducing the number coming to Canada by the end of the year, they understand the magnitude of the task.
But he says they’re holding the Liberals accountable to meet their original promise.
“If the government commits to bringing the full number by early 2016 and doesn’t stop there, I guess that’s something with we understand.”
Othman says the the new arrivals were forced to flee their homeland, and it’s our responsibility as Canadians to accept them with open arms.
“They need our help, and as citizens of the world and obviously as Canadians who have a very welcoming heritage and culture is to make sure we do our part of the world and we will see this rewarding.”
Othman says many Syrians who’ve fled their homes have had hope for the past five years they could get resettled in countries like Canada.
