Friends and family of a missing Vancouver Island Olympic rower continue to search for him, despite new questions about whether he disappeared on purpose.
52 year old Harold Backer was last seen boarding the Coho ferry to Port Angeles on November 3.
After he was reported missing, friends like Luke Mills jumped into action, even searching Washington State themselves.
But the Victoria Times Colonist reports the mutual fund dealer wrote a letter to his investment clients before he went missing, apologizing for decisions that cost them bundles of cash.
Nonetheless, Mills continues to search for his friend.
“I know him as an amazing person, well respected in the community, a family man, someone that would literally do anything for anyone. Seeing past anything else that is going on, or anything being said out there.”
“I keep telling people that my concern is that I want to know he’s okay, and that he gets back safely.”
Backer is a three-time Olympic rower, competing in 1984, 1988 and 1992.
