BC’s Information and Privacy Commissioner is turning her sights on Vancouver.
Elizabeth Denham is reviewing City Hall’s access to information practices.
It comes after October’s damning report into Freedom of Information abuses within the provincial government, including the premier’s office, involving staff who were mass deleting emails that were requested by the public.
Spokesperson Cara McGregor says the City Hall review is based on complaints, requests for review and breaches, and interviews with stakeholders.
Deputy Mayor Andrea Reimer says this is routine.
“What is happening is a proactive audit, just like we have our books audited every year, to ensure that our systems and procedures are at the level that we expect them to be, and the public and the law expects them to be.”
No timeline has been set yet for the probe.
