Hundreds of whisky aficionados braved the rain to attend BC Liquor’s Premium Spirit Release.
The 10th annual spirit release brings in hard to find whiskey, bourbons and ultra-rare luxury products.
BC Liquor’s April Kemick says her customers have changed since the first spirit release.
“You’ll notice outside in line up, we’ve got young professionals, we got so-called hipsters, young families, foodies – people are really taking an interest in worldly whiskies and that’s something we’re seeing reflected in our customers.”
Kemick says there’s something for everyone:
“We really do have a wide range of products – the top end being $36,000 for an ultra rare luxury collectible item – but we’ve also got some excellent products in the $57 – $100 range.”
Greg from Seattle was the first person in the line up for the Spirit Release, coming in early Monday night. His drink of choice? Pappy Van Winkle.
“It’s a bourbon out of Kentucky, it’s such a small batch supply, they make 7000 cases, and the availability is very, very tight.”
But after purchasing over 23 hundred dollars of the stuff, Greg is sad to go.
“It’s not about the liquor – it’s the people, the life experiences, the journey.”
For Greg, it’s worth waiting a week for bourbon.
30 BC Liquor stores across the province are participating in the release today.
