The City of Vancouver won’t be establishing an independent Office of the Ombudsperson any time soon.
In a memo, the City said that a Vancouver-based Ombudsperson would overlap in its powers with the Provincial Ombudsperson.
NPA Councillor George Affleck disagrees.
” Given the number of lawsuits and the amount of anger that we saw in the last election and the ongoing issues. I think there’s a place for an Ombudsperson – a made in Vancouver solution for Vancouver. It’s a way to potentially save money – because the cost of those lawsuits is significant.”
The City of Montreal established the first Ombudsperson in 2002.
Toronto followed suit in 2009.
