“I always decorate them exactly the same, with just the wreaths and bows around their necks”.
Since 1994, you may have noticed the lions at Lions Gate Bridge were always decorated around Christmas time with colorful wreaths.
But a few years ago, that came to an end.
Richmond’s Mauro Azzano is the man behind it but The Ministry of Transportation asked him to stop in 2011 after it received numerous complaints of the lions being dressed up in sports jerseys, sombreros, and even lobsters.
On Wednesday Todd Stone said he would like the holiday tradition to continue and asked his people to contact Azzano.
Azzano says he hasn’t personally heard from the ministry yet.
“My son read it online on a local news Facebook page, that the Minister had given permission for the lions to be re-wreathed”.
Azzano says the news makes him happy and if he receives the green light, he would keep the decoration a secret, saying it will be surprise to the City of Vancouver.
