Training drug addicts to save their own lives.
The Downtown Eastside’s Drug Users Resource Centre is marking 1,000 people trained to administer Narcan.
It’s an antidote to fentanyl, the potent opioid blamed for a number of overdose deaths this year.
Spokesperson Dean Wilson calls it a “silver bullet.”
“As late as (Wednesday), one of our staff used his kit for the very first time. His friend was going under, he gave him the shot, and he lived.”
Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times more toxic than morphine.
