Vancouver has become one of the world’s first cities to adopt a plan to shift to 100-per-cent renewable energy by 2050.
Council has approved the plan to cut energy use while increasing the supply and use of renewable energy.
Coun. Andrea Reimer says the plan includes streamlining the process for installing rooftop solar panels and supporting more car-sharing.
“We’re the first major city in North America to have a fully modeled out strategy and council — to be able to pass such a significant policy is a big move.”
The plan also sets a target to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80-per-cent below levels set back in 2007.
