It’s a new way of doing things for Transit Police in Metro Vancouver.
Spokesperson Anne Drennan says officers are now posted to six so-called “deployment hubs” along the Skytrain, Millennium and Canada lines. They’re at Metrotown, Surrey Central, Waterfront, Bridgeport, Lougheed, Broadway and Commercial-Broadway.
“They’re spread out throughout the entire system and it means officers can be centrally deployed, or deployed more quickly, from these locations to incidents that happen within the area they’re working in.”
There are 167 transit police officers in all.
The Evergreen Line scheduled to open in fall 2016 to serve the Tri-Cities But Drennan says there are no plans to hire more officers unless more cash comes in.
