“This is a really important issue because of the number of animals that are affected across B.C. and right across Canada.”
The care of farm animals is a topic which has been debated, and the BC SPCA says the public now has an opportunity to update Canada’s code of practice for the care and handling of them.
Senior manager of stakeholder relations Geoff Urton estimates 100 million birds are raised in B.C. every year.
“There’s an incredible amount of work that could be done to improve the well-being of animals. Everything from improving the amount of space that they have through to making sure they’re not suffering from any kinds of painful health problems.”
Until December 4, an expert committee will take public comments and concerns online.
