No injuries but extensive damage and frayed nerves after a late-night two-alarm fire in East Vancouver.
Captain Jonathan Gormick says they got the call at 10:20pm, and when they arrived in the 2500-block of Woodland Drive they found the front of a 2-and-a-half storey home fully engulfed in flames.
A man trapped on the rear balcony was rescued.
Gormick says they aren’t sure about reports the fire was caused by Roman Candles.
“It would be unfortunate because it’s something that is totally preventable and I think we’ve gone to great lengths to try and educate people about how to safely use fireworks. I think what people probably take for granted is how hot fireworks burn. So the incendiary balls that come out of a Roman Candle or even something like a sparkler burns very, very hot, much hotter than ordinary combustibles.”
The investigation into the cause continues.
