We’re learning more about a British family ripped apart after the whale-watching boat tragedy off the coast of Tofino.
British woman Julie Thomas is among the survivors recovering in hospital, but she’s dealing with the unthinkable grief of losing her husband and son.
Both her husband, fifty-year-old David Thomas, and their 18-year-old son Stephen, perished in the accident.
Stephen was just two weeks shy of his 19th birthday.
The family, all from England, were active members of the Swindon Gateway Church.
The church has released a statement that says the “two men brought smiles and encouragement to all who knew them, and they will greatly missed.”
Young victim called a talented photographer
Stephen was also a member of the Swindon Down’s Syndrome Group, which says the young man was a talented photographer who recently won a national competition for a photo of Banff’s Moraine Lake.
Stephen’s 22-year-old brother, Paul Thomas, is flying to Vancouver today to be at his mother’s bedside.
