A man is in hospital tonight after falling 40 metres from the Grouse Grind.
North Shore Rescue, BC Ambulance and District of North Vancouver Fire, responded to the call around 4 this afternoon.
Jeff Yarnold of North Shore Rescue says the hiker fell into steep terrain.
“He fell at a very steep part of the grind. Around the three-quarter mark he went over a rope on the grind and fell down into a very vertical gully.”
Rescuers had to be lowered into the gully with rope by a helicopter to get to the man. He suffered serious injuries.
“Decreased level of consciousness, slight trouble breathing, he was packaged in a spinal collar on a spine board. He’s off to the hospital now”.
Yarnold says the important thing about this rescue is that everyone worked hard to get the hiker out before dark.
