The City of Vancouver is moving forward with its bold plan to regulate illegal marijuana dispensaries.
The city says after setting out new zoning and business licensing rules, the city received 176 applications.
So far, only 11 marijuana dispensaries can move on to the next phase and apply for development permits.
Letters have also been sent to another 30 applicants that meet zoning requirements, except they are too close to other pot shops.
They must be 300 meters from schools, community centres, and other marijuana dispensaries.
The city says businesses that did not apply for a licence prior to the deadline must close their doors immediately, or be subject to enforcement action.
